Acne treatment
How is acne treated?
There are several ways to treat acne. Each type of treatment varies based on your age, the type of acne you have and the severity. A healthcare provider might recommend taking oral medications, using topical medications or using medicated therapies to treat your skin. The goal of acne treatment is to stop new pimples from forming and to heal the existing blemishes on your skin.
Topical acne medications
Your healthcare provider may recommend using a topical acne medication to treat your skin. You can rub these medications directly onto your skin as you would a lotion or a moisturizer. These could include products that contain one of the following ingredients:
Benzoyl peroxide: This is available as an over-the-counter product (such as Clearasil®, Stridex® and PanOxyl®) as a leave-on gel or wash. It targets surface bacteria, which often aggravates acne. Lower concentrations and wash formulations are less irritating to your skin.
Salicylic acid: This is available over the counter for acne as a cleanser or lotion. It helps remove the top layer of damaged skin. Salicylic acid dissolves dead skin cells to prevent your hair follicles from clogging.
Azelaic acid: This is a natural acid found in various grains such as barley, wheat and rye. It kills microorganisms on the skin and reduces swelling.
Retinoids (vitamin A derivatives): Retinol, such as Retin-A®, Tazorac® and Differin®, which is available without a prescription, breaks up blackheads and whiteheads and helps prevent clogged pores, the first signs of acne. Most people are candidates for retinoid therapy. These medications aren’t spot treatments and must be used on the entire area of skin affected by acne to prevent the formation of new pimples. You often need to use these for several months before noticing positive results.
Antibiotics: Topical antibiotics like clindamycin and erythromycin control surface bacteria that aggravate and cause acne. Antibiotics are more effective when combined with benzoyl peroxide.
Dapsone: Dapsone (Aczone®) is a topical gel, which also has antibacterial properties. It treats inflamed acne.
Oral acne medications
Oral acne medications are pills that you take by mouth to clear your acne. Types of oral acne medications could include:
Antibiotics: Antibiotics treat acne caused by bacteria. Common antibiotics for acne include tetracycline, minocycline and doxycycline. These are best for moderate to severe acne.
Isotretinoin (Amnesteem®, Claravis® and Sotret®): Isotretinoin is an oral retinoid. Isotretinoin shrinks the size of oil glands, which contributes to acne formation.
Contraceptives: The use of certain contraceptives can sometimes help women and people AFAB who have acne. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved several types of birth control pills for treating acne. Some brand names include Estrostep®, Beyaz®, Ortho Tri-Cyclen® and Yaz®. These pills contain a combination of estrogen (the primary AFAB sex hormone) and progesterone (a natural form of steroid that helps regulate menstruation).
Hormone therapy: Hormone therapy is helpful for some people with acne, especially if you experience acne flare-ups during menstruation or irregular periods caused by excess androgen (a hormone). Hormone therapy consists of low-dose estrogen and progesterone (birth control pills) or a medication called spironolactone that blocks the effect of certain hormones at the level of your hair follicles and oil glands.
Additional acne therapies
If topical or oral medications don’t work well for your acne or if you have scars from your acne, a healthcare provider may recommend different types of acne therapies to clear your skin, including:
Steroids: Steroids can treat severe acne with injections into large nodules to reduce inflammation.
Lasers: Lasers and light therapy treat acne scars. A laser delivers heat to the scarred collagen under your skin. This relies on your body’s wound-healing response to create new, healthy collagen, which encourages growth of new skin to replace it.
Chemical peels: This treatment uses special chemicals to remove the top layer of old skin. After removal of the top layer of skin, new skin grows in smoother and can lessen acne scars.
Dermal fillers
Dermal fillers are a safe, effective, and non-surgical way to replace lost volume, augment facial features, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. They can reduce the signs of aging and help you achieve a natural outcome. As we age, our faces naturally develop facial lines and lose subcutaneous fat. Facial skin also thins, which increases volume loss. As a result, smile lines and crow’s feet become more noticeable. The age at which fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of volume become obvious depends on multiple factors, such as lifestyle, heredity, and sun exposure. Dermal fillers are injectable treatments designed to help reduce the visible signs of aging.
They are an alternative to plastic surgery that can reduce the signs of facial aging and boost facial rejuvenation. There are different types of dermal fillers. They differ in chemical markup, longevity, and degrees of softness. To achieve the best results, it’s important for the best dermal filler to be matched to a patient based on their desired outcome. What can dermal fillers do? They can generate major benefits including:
Enhancement of shallow contours Plumping of thin lips Softening of facial lines, creases, and wrinkles Improvement of the appearance of recessed facial scars Reconstruction of contour deformities Decreasing the appearance of lower lid shadowing These benefits can sometimes be achieved without the expense, inconvenience, and risk associated with plastic surgery. Dermal filler results are predictable and have relatively minimal risks and side effects. WHO CAN USE IT ? If you are physically healthy, don’t smoke, are committed to maintaining good skincare and health, and have a positive outlook coupled with realistic goals for improving your appearance, then you may be a good candidate for dermal fillers. The best way to find out is to schedule a personal consultation.
Botulinum toxin
Botulinum toxin is an injectable neuromodulator derived from neurotoxins produced by Clostridium botulinum, the bacterium responsible for botulism. As a result of the ability of the toxin to inhibit neurotransmission between peripheral nerves and muscle tissue, botulinum toxin is an effective treatment for aesthetic and medical concerns that are exacerbated by muscle contraction.
The human face is composed of a complex array of muscles that act in concert to create facial expressions and fulfill vital functions. Clinicians with a thorough understanding of facial anatomy and the functional relationships between muscles in the face and neck can safely use botulinum toxin to selectively weaken specific muscles, resulting in favorable cosmetic results.
Appropriate candidates for botulinum toxin injection are patients with specific cosmetic concerns that can be alleviated by local muscle weakening and who lack contraindications to therapy. Patients between the ages of 30 and 50 years often achieve the most benefit from treatment; a greater proportion of rhytides in older patients may be due to loss of skin elasticity, which is not alleviated by botulinum toxin alone -Botilinum toxin for Migranes :To ease migraine symptoms, Botox is injected into the treatment area. The medication enters your nerve endings, thereby blocking the chemicals that signal pain transmission. In general, Botox for migraines works better with every additional treatment. Most people report satisfactory results after the second or third session.
Chemical peels
A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun. There are three basic types of chemical peels:
Superficial or lunchtime peel: Alpha-hydroxy acid or another mild acid is used to penetrate only the outer layer of skin to gently exfoliate it. The treatment is used to improve the appearance of mild skin discoloration and rough skin as well as to refresh the face, neck, chest or hands.
Medium peel: Glycolic or trichloroacetic acid is applied to penetrate the out and middle layers of skin to remove damaged skin cells. The treatment is used to improve age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, freckles and moderate skin discoloration. It also can be used to smooth rough skin and treat some precancerous skin growths, i.e. actinic keratosis.
Deep peel: Trichloroacetic acid or phenol is applied to deeply penetrate the middle layer of skin to remove damaged skin cells. The treatment removes moderate lines, age spots, freckles and shallow scars. Patients will see a dramatic improvement in skin appearance. The procedure is used on the face and only can be performed once
Microneedling
Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure for your skin. Your healthcare provider uses thin needles to make tiny holes in the top layer of your skin. The damage helps stimulate your skin’s healing process, so it produces more collagen and elastin. These proteins keep your skin firm and smooth.
Most people get microneedling on their face, but you can also get it on your legs, back, neck or other areas where you notice damaged or aging skin. You’ll probably need multiple treatments to achieve your desired results.
Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy treatment is a non surgical cosmetic solution aimed at diminishing problem areas in your body such as cellulite, excess weight, body contouring, and face/neck rejuvenation, just to name a few. It is administered via numerous injections containing various types of FDA approved medicines, vitamins, and minerals.
sj
— It is introduced into the mesoderm, the layer of fat and tissue underneath the skin.
— The content mixture of the injection varies in accordance with each unique case and specific area to be treated.
— Mesotherapy can also assist in reducing pain, and in replenishing hair loss in both men and women.
Scar Treatments
What are the treatments for scars?
Treatments can reduce a scar’s size or appearance, but the scar will never completely go away. Some treatments prevent a scar from forming as a wound heals. Scar treatments include:
1.Dermabrasion: A common acne scar treatment, dermabrasion removes the top layer of skin by gently “sanding” the skin. The procedure softens and smooths the skin and can improve the appearance of scars.
2.Injections: Your healthcare provider injects medication directly into the scar, making it smaller and flatter. Corticosteroid injections can reduce the size of keloid scars. Your healthcare provider may inject drugs that treat cancer, such as bleomycin (Bleo 15k™) and fluorouracil (Adrucil® or 5-FU), to flatten scars and reduce itching and pain.
3.Laser treatments: Several types of laser and light treatments can make scars (including acne scars) less noticeable. Laser treatments use a particular wavelength of light to cause a particular action in the skin. The V beam is a pulsed dye laser at 595 nm (nanometers) that targets small blood vessels in the skin. Sometimes the scars remain pink or red because the new blood vessels that developed to heal the wound never receded once their job was done. This laser can cauterize the small vessels from the inside out to remove them from the scar and allow the pink or red color to fade. This action may also help the scar flatten if it’s too thick or thicken if it is too thin. Other lasers (such as the Fraxel laser) can vaporize small columns of tissue within the scar to break up the collagen fibers and allow the scar to remodel and become more flexible. The treatments can also help with pain, itching and sensitivity. Laser treatments may cause hyperpigmentation (skin darkening) or hypopigmentation (skin lightening) in people who have dark skin. Talk to your healthcare provider about side effects before starting treatments.
4.Pressure therapy: An elastic bandage, dressing or stocking puts pressure on a wound during the healing process. The pressure prevents a scar from forming or decreases its size. Massage therapy can also help break up scar tissue and allow it to remodel.
Scar-revision surgery: A range of surgical procedures can remove a scar, improve its appearance or transplant skin from another area (skin graft). This is an exchange of one type of scar for a different, more preferable scar.
5.Topical creams and ointments: Applying silicone ointment to a scar may make it smaller or prevent it from forming. Or your healthcare provider may recommend applying corticosteroid cream or a silicone gel sheet to the area. If you have dark skin, ask your provider about using a skin-lightening cream with hydroquinone to lighten scars.
Scars form as part of the body’s healing process. Your body builds tissue to repair damaged skin and close gaps due to an injury. Scars come in all shapes and sizes. They can result from accidents, burns, surgery, acne and illness. Over time, most scars fade away. Several treatments can make scars less noticeable.
Microblading
NATURAL HAIR STROKES FOR UP TO 1 YEAR
The original SKINS signature treatment that has revolutionized the beauty industry. A skilled technique to create a fuller brow, using a super fine tool to achieve natural looking hair strokes.
Minimal invasion or recovery time we use the best organic products and work to the highest safety standards. This semi permanent treatment mimics the natural hair to create an authentic look.
WHAT WE DO
We provide a safe and minimally invasive treatment. Using purely organic pigments to fill in your brows, we ensure they retain their color through sweat and water. We also provide frequent touch-ups as and when needed.
STEPS
- Your therapist will begin the treatment using a face mapping technique.
- They will first study the shape of your brows, and design your new brows to compliment your facial features.
- They will then use a semi-permanent hair stroke tool, with a fine needle, to draw individual strokes on your brows to mimic your natural hair.
AFTER CARE
- Avoid getting your brows wet for at least 7-10 days after the treatment. This includes swimming, saunas, hot showers and steam rooms.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for at least 4 weeks after the treatment as this can cause the pigment to fade prematurely.
- Do not pick, scratch or rub the treated area as this may cause infections, delay the healing process and cause scarring. Itching and flaking are normal during the healing process.
- Do not apply any makeup or skincare products on the treated area for at least 10-14 days after the treatment.
- Use a clean cotton swab to apply the provided aftercare ointment to the treated area 2-3 times a day for 7-10 days.
- Avoid any strenuous activity that causes sweating for at least 7 days after the treatment.
- Avoid sleeping on your stomach or face down with your brows touching the pillow for at least 10 days after the treatment.
- Do not use any exfoliating products such as facial scrubs or acids on the treated area for at least 4 weeks after the treatment.
- Attend your follow-up appointment within 4-8 weeks to retouch any needed areas and ensure the best possible results.
PRP ( platelet-rich plasma )
What is platelet-rich plasma?
Platelet-rich plasma consists of two elements: plasma, or the liquid portion of blood, and platelets, a type of blood cell that plays an important role in healing throughout the body. Platelets are well-known for their clotting abilities, but they also contain growth factors that can trigger cell reproduction and stimulate tissue regeneration or healing in the treated area. Platelet-rich plasma is simply blood that contains more platelets than normal.
To create platelet-rich plasma, clinicians take a blood sample from the patient and place it into a device called a centrifuge that rapidly spins the sample, separating out the other components of the blood from the platelets and concentrating them within the plasma. What is PRP treatment used for?
PRP injections are used for a range of conditions,* from musculoskeletal pain and injuries to cosmetic procedures.
lipolytic injection
What is injection lipolysis?
Injection lipolysis chemically reduces the number of fat cells around the injection site. The chemical, called deoxycholic acid, results in fat cell disruption and death. Currently, it is FDA-approved for treatment of the area underneath the chin to eliminate what is known as a “double chin.” A commonly known type of injection lipolysis is Kybella.
